Reiki is a form of energy bodywork that originated in Japan. It is based on the concept that a “life force”, or energy, flows through all living things.  This concept is held in many traditional healing systems.  The word Reiki is made up of two Japanese words – rei, which means “universal,” and ki, which means “life force energy".  Reiki is not affiliated with any particular religion or religious practice.  According to the Reiki tradition, we are in a positive state of health when there is a harmonious flow of energy within our body and with our environment.  When the energy flow is disrupted, weakened or blocked, we may experience symptoms such as fatigue, sadness, confusion, and illness.  Reiki helps activate the body’s natural healing abilities by channeling energy into the recipient by means of light touch.  Most commonly, Reiki is used to ease pain, anxiety, and depression.  Reiki is not a cure for a disease or illness, it assists the body in creating an environment to facilitate healing.

Reiki benefits extend to healthy individuals as well, some experience an increase in energy, deepening of spiritual awareness, gaining clarity about a decision, or building inner confidence.  Reiki also serves as a wonderful complement to any type of medical or alternative treatment.

A Reiki practitioner begins a session by giving the client an opportunity to discuss any particular problems or issues they are experiencing and asking them what they are hoping to achieve from their session.  Reiki sessions may be enhanced by the use of aromatherapy, crystals, or Pendulum when deemed appropriate by the practitioner and client.
